REGISTERED NURSING OFFICER

 

POSITION:                           Registered Nursing Officer

REPORTS TO:                     Senior Nurse / Medical Officer

DEPARTMENT:                  Imaging                               

POSITION SUMMARY: Registered nurses plan and provide medical and nursing care to patients undergoing diagnostic imaging procedures or radiation therapy. They work closely with physicians and radiologic technologies to educate and prepare patients for x-rays, CT scans, MRI’s, ultrasound and other tests.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

Clinical:

  • Promotes and restores patients’ health by completing the nursing process; collaborating with physicians and multi-disciplinary team members; providing physical and psychological support to patient, friends and families and supervising assigned team members.
  • Identifies patient care requirements by establishing personal rapport with potential and actual patients and other persons in a position to understand care requirements.
  • Establish a compassionate environment by providing an emotional, psychological and spiritual support to patients, friends and families.
  • Promote patients’ independence by establishing patient care goals; teaching patients, friends and families to understand the condition and medications made, and also applying self-care skills, and answering their questions.
  • Assures quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards; measuring the health outcomes against patient care goals and standards; making or recommending the necessary adjustments; and following hospital and nursing division philosophies and standards.
  • Maintaining a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations and calling for assistance, whenever necessary from health care support personnel and officials.
  • Maintains continuity among the nursing teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities and continuing needs.
  • Must be able to maintain patient confidence and protect operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Must be able to ensure a smooth operation of medical equipments by completing preventive maintenance requirements following the manufacturers instructions; trouble shooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipments inventories and evaluating new equipments and techniques.
  • Must be able to maintain nursing supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; and using both equipments and supplies as needed to accomplish results.
  • Must be able to maintain a professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and participating in educative seminars.
  • Must be able to maintain a cooperative relationship amongst health care teams by communicating information and participating in team problems workshops/seminars.
  • Must be able to contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

   Educational:

  • Must be able to participate in mandatory trainings and actively pursue a continuous professional developmental programme and keeping an up-to-date personal record.
  • Perform other duties assigned.

Qualifications;

  • Must be currently registered with the Nigerian Medical Council.
  • Must be currently clinical skilled in emergency medicine and intensive care.
  • Must be competent in advanced life support skills.
  • Must be computer literate.
  • Must be able to communicate, influence and build an effective relationship at all levels of the business.
  • A degree in School of Nursing.
  • A minimum of two years post qualification in Nursing, with an excellent experience in both Clinical and diagnostics aspects in Nursing.
  • Registered Nurse degree (RN).
  • An active applicable state license.
  • BLS/ACLS Certified.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels.
  • Communication skills of persuasion, explanation and gaining consent.
  • A flexible approach to work and working hours.
  • Excellent Interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain accurate and legible patients’ records.
  • Good IT skills and information governance awareness.
  • Ability to work, unsupervised as well as working as part of a team.
